Shaheen says her race ‘epitomizes’ choice in election

DENVER -- Hours before she is scheduled to speak before the Democratic National Convention, former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) said her race against U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) is emblematic off Democrats' efforts in this election year.

"There's no race in the country that more starkly epitomizes the choice in this election, in November, than New Hampshire," Shaheen told reporters. "John Sununu, my opponent, has been labeled the most vulnerable Republican in the United States Senate."

Sununu: $7.9 million dollars of ads to attack me!

Following up on our last post regarding the role of national party campaign committees in the Shaheen-Sununu race:

In an e-mail today to supporters titled Its Time to Fight Back, Senator John Sununu writes:

Seeking to bolster Jeanne Shaheen's campaign, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, headed by New York's other very liberal Senator, Chuck Schumer, has pre-bought approximately $7.9 million dollars of television ads to begin in September. Yes, $7.9 million dollars of ads to attack me!

If this proves out, Team Sununu must be hoping that National Republican Senatorial Committee chairman John Ensign is twisting the arms of his colleagues to fill the NRSC coffers. Last month, Ensign promised to match dollar-for-dolllar any DSCC buy.

MANCHESTER, NH- 1st District Congressional Candidate John Stephen today called out Senator Chuck Schumer for his letter that started a run on IndyMac bank and necessitated a takeover of the bank by the Federal Deposit Insurance Commission (FDIC).  The federal Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS), which supervises banking institutions, cited Schumer's letter as the reason for the bank failure.  After Schumer's June 26 letter, depositors withdrew over $1.3 billion in assets from IndyMac, making the bank insolvent.
