State GOP announces meeting date

The New Hampshire Republican Party has announced that its state committee will meet in mid-January to select a chairman.

Yesterday, in an email to Republicans, Chairman Fergus Cullen said that the meeting will be held on Jan. 17 at Bedford High School.

Cullen not running for second term, Sununu set to run

New Hampshire Republican Chairman Fergus Cullen has announced that he will not run for a second term as chairman and is supporting the candidacy of former Gov. John H. Sununu for the state party's top position.

"In the weeks since the election, I have had an ongoing positive and collaborative discussion with former Governor John H. Sununu about the future of the New Hampshire Republican Party and what role Governor Sununu might play as we work to continue the process of rebuilding and strengthening the Party," Cullen wrote in an e-mail to state Republicans. "Governor Sununu has decided that he wants to apply his considerable experience, talent, and intellect to the job of state party chairman. I have decided to step aside when my term ends in January and support his candidacy for this position."

Mayberry still considering running for NH GOP chairman

Dover Republican activist Matt Mayberry said he is still thinking about running for New Hampshire Republican chairman, but added that his real estate business might stand in his way.

"I'm thinking about it, but I'm in an industry that requires all my attention," Mayberry said. "Real estate is not fun, so I don't know if I want to give up the time both personally and professionally to do this."

Ryan stripped of House duties

State Rep. Jim Ryan (D-Franklin) has been removed as chairman of the House Transportation Committee and as co-chair of the Committee to Elect House Democrats.

"I was shocked and saddened to learn of the charges against Rep. Ryan. It is critically important the public have confidence in the integrity of the legislative process," House Speaker Terie Norelli said in a statement. "That is why I have taken immediate action and removed Rep. Ryan as chair of the House Transportation Committee. He will be replaced by the committee's vice chair, Rep. Robert Williams of Concord."
