Shea-Porter Announces Critical Drug Prevention Grant

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter today announced that Rochester, NH will receive a federal grant of $124,816.46 from the Drug-Free Communities program for the Rochester Community Coalition for Alcohol and Drug Prevention (RCCADP).  The Coalition is one of 199 new grant recipients across the country and works to prevent youth drug and alcohol abuse.

“Drug and alcohol abuse tears families apart,” said Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter.  “Families need support to prevent abuse because protecting young people from these dangers is a challenging task.  The Rochester Community Coalition for Alcohol and Drug Prevention meets these challenges every day and must have the resources to do their work.  This funding is critical to ensuring that these lifesaving programs are successful.”

“I am delighted the Rochester Community Coalition for Alcohol and Drug Prevention is receiving this important funding,” said Rochester Mayor and RCCADP Chair John LaRochelle.  “This grant will greatly aid us in combating underage drinking and drug abuse.”

The Drug-Free Communities program provides local programs like the Rochester Community Coalition for Alcohol and Drug Prevention with vital funding to help reduce drug abuse.  The DFC grant program provides five-year grants to community organizations that facilitate citizen participation in local drug prevention efforts.

The Rochester Community Coalition for Alcohol and Drug Prevention will use the grant money to expand participation in the coalition, provide community education and prevention events, and reduce the number of Rochester-area young people who abuse alcohol and drugs.
